Borders & Birthday leading up to Botswana. DAY 22 - 24

Well I know its been a few days since we last updated everyone but again wifi and Internet has been really ordinary and again we have had long drives and really early starts so a lot of sleeping and not much communication.

We had a change in itinerary leaving Malawi, we were supposed to do 1 night in Chipata and 2 nights in South Luangwa National Park. However due to so many long days, with thanks to delayed border crossings and landslide our trip leader decided to not get us up at 4am from Chipata to do a game drive in South Luangwa at 6am in the morning.

Instead we stayed in South Luangwa, 1 night then Chipata & an added 1 night stop in Lusaka (the capital of Zambia) this so happened to fall on my birthday 19th of April. So while it was disappointing having to spend 1 night only in each place, it was great arriving in camp before 4pm on my birthday. The cook was able to prepare what I thought was a 2 course meal turned into 3 as birthday cake surprisingly came onto the menu.

Aaron had arranged it with the cook as finding a cake in Africa isn't easy.

It was Black Forest cake for those interested, and normally you could say that most people pass the cake and your usually left with left overs. I can honestly say in the last 10 years this was the first time that the whole cake was finished.

No one knew how long it had been since cake or how long it would be until the next time we would have cake.

Any other early start on day 24. It's onto Livingstone, once the old Capitol of Zambia and border city to Victoria falls.

There is a visa required for Zimbabwe so rather then a double entry visa from Vic falls to do the microlight, IT was required today and with clear skies and a full moon forecast tonight it was a perfect day to fly over the falls, and what better way to see them for the first time.

We had a sunset drinks tonight at The Royal hotel Livingstone, wow what a posh night. Two dry dirty martinis with olives for me and a double captains and coke for Aaron and a Local beer chaser, following the Africa sunset and the end to a pretty good day on the bank of the Zambezi River.

Tomorrow we're onto Botswana and the Chobe national park. No showers, power or wifi. God help me!

Then back to Vic falls on the Zimbabwe side and farewell again to part of our group. We will loose a few and gain a few. Pitty we are loosing some of the better half of our group.

That's it for now, back in touch after our 2 days in Botswana, but it wont be our last as we will return after vic falls as we back our final stretch to Johannesburg.

We are literally halfway through over overland camping trip.

Bring on hotels and hot showers.

-End
